Strengthen your ability to act through experimental decision-making

Stay decisive despite uncertainty: Rhizome frames risky decisions as experiments – with a defined scope, shared responsibility and automatic review.

Making decisions in uncertain situations is risky. Nevertheless, you have to face the facts. Rhizome helps you to consciously make selected decisions in the form of experiments: with a defined scope, clear responsibilities, and an automatic review.

How it works with Rhizome:

01
Activate experiment mode
If you realize that in the case of a decision all possible courses of action are risky or simply appear equally valid, create a solution proposal in experiment mode.
02
Share responsibility
Share the felt responsibility by relying on broad participation from relevant stakeholders.
03
Use the resistance query
If you are faced with several suboptimal courses of action, use the resistance query to identify the option that can be most supported by everyone.
04
Binding but reviewable
The decision made will be marked as an experiment and is binding until it is automatically marked for review after an arbitrary period of time.
05
Learn from the experiment
If the experiment is successful, you can pat yourselves on the back and confirm the decision. If not, at least you are an experimental team and have already excluded one option through co-creative trial and error.

Why it matters

Uncertainty paralyzes teams and often leads to defensive decision-making: teams or individuals prefer not to decide at all or to choose the option with the least personal risk rather than the objectively best or most advantageous one for the organization – often due to fear of criticism or failure. With Rhizome, you can consciously decide experimentally, make risks and the danger of failure explicit – and thus establish a future-oriented failure culture within the team.
